Study Abroad, Mobile Communications of the World
We are about to embark on the first study abroad program held in Seoul, Korea, in UTSA history. This study abroad program (COM 4413, Topics in Communication, COM 6953, Independent Study) will provide us with an opportunity to experience mobile communication across the world with particular emphasis on Korea. We will become familiar with the current statuses of mobile communication in the countries and critically evaluate a variety of mobile communication theories and practices. We will also develop our ability to interpret and build an original thought on topics of mobile communication. In addition , the program can provide us with a learning experience of Korean culture.
As the first group to participate in this study abroad program, we are opening a new chapter in the connection between UTSA and Korea. We are experiencing a shortage of funding, however, that will allow us to fully participate in the program. There were originally over 100 students who were interested in attending and at this time only five are able to make the trip. The main deterrent for students has been the costs associated with travel and lodging.
What your support will do
If we reach our goal of $500, we will be able to offset some of the expenses for each participant. Obviously, additional funds will ensure each student can fully participate without worrying about expenses. Your donation will be giving us an opportunity to contribute back to UTSA. With your support, we will be able to build connections with Korean business and community leaders and we will return our learning experience to the university through discussions and activities. We hope this will give encouragement to the 100 UTSA students that were first eager to join but couldn’t make it due to financial reasons.
