Support Dreamers at UTSA

History

The Dreamers Resource Center (DRC) at The University of Texas at San Antonio opened in January of 2018 to provide support for students.  The DRC was the result of passionate efforts by students, faculty, and staff over the last eight years and the vivacious support of President Taylor Eighmy and then Chancellor William McRaven.  The current UT System Chancellor, James Milliken, has also vocalized support for Dreamers.

“The UTSA Dreamers Resource Center was envisioned over a decade ago by a bright group of student activists who had a vision of hope and resilience for future undocumented students at UTSA,” said Andrea Ramos Fernandez ’18. “One year after the opening of the Dreamer Center, I wish to admire the legacy of the students whose hard work and dedication brought a legacy of inclusion to our university. Thanks to their efforts, many students will have more opportunities to excel in their academic goals...”

Our Goal

We are committed to assisting Dreamers in accessing services, resources, and support needed to be successful at UTSA and beyond. The opportunity for on-campus employment, internships, and participation in undergraduate research on campus is an incredibly valuable experiential-learning opportunity all students.  UTSA Dreamers face substantial challenges in finding resources to participate in these types of on-campus opportunities. Additionally, additional financial support will allow for continued enhancement of programming including workshops, Dreamer ALLY training, and other programmatic initiatives can be expanded and benefit the entire UTSA community.

Community Impact

The UTSA Dreamers Resource Center is the first of its type in the state of Texas.  As a leader in the state and in the San Antonio community, UTSA seeks to fully bolster support of Dreamers by making available the same opportunities that other Roadrunners engage in during their time at UTSA.
