About Us
The UTSA Mascot Program is directly associated with the spirit program. This program consists of multiple mascots, a handler known as Rowdy’s Wrangler and two cheerleading teams. Comprised of students with a love and passion for UTSA and our athletic teams. Spirit Team members spread support numerous athletic programs throughout the year. They attend various athletic, academic, community and social functions. In addition to their athletic accomplishments, the program has been consistent for years in earning a team accumulative GPA above a 3.0.
UTSA Spirit program consists of two competitive teams and our beloved Mascot, Rowdy The Roadrunner. Rowdy has up to six individuals that cover the duties as our official University mascot. Our spirit program and all our mascots who are dedicated to being Rowdy are all considered “Family”. The team members have generations of UTSA Alumni Cheerleaders and mascots to network with.
The program supports all home football, volleyball, and men’s and women’s basketball games as well as select travel games/tournaments and hundreds of community events. Whether in your freshman orientation, on the turf, court, or mat, the program plays an integral role in developing spirit, pride, and tradition at UTSA.
Our Project
The UTSA Spirit program has a history of S-U-C-C-E-S-S. We need YOUR help to send Rowdy to Nationals for the first time in school history. He will be competing for a national championship alongside the top mascots in the nation.
Over the years, our mascot program has made positive progression in regards to our University spirit and support, game day focus, character building, crowd involvement, travel and attendance to University and Athletic events/games, building and maintaining traditions, taking pride in his image, unifying his look, and a focus on connecting to others on social media. Rowdy has helped promote UTSA all over the Alamo City.
This past season, the spirit program fundraised the entire cost to attend NCA College Nationals. Rowdy traveled to perform in both the cheer teams' performances as they earned a top-five ranking in the nation. Being nationally ranked helped our program expand our brand and image to showcase UTSA Spirit on the national stage. This includes coverage on national TV and several other publications. We seek your support to continue this legacy by providing Rowdy the opportunity for the first time ever to compete on a national stage against the best of the best Division IA FBS Mascots. We believe to be the best, you must compete against the best.

Why contribute
Making history in taking our beloved mascot, Rowdy to compete as one of the top college mascots in the nation. This level of national competition puts our brand on the stage alongside other top spirit programs in the nation. Being a consistent top-five spirit program in the nation, our program is nationally televised on CBS Sports. This exposure helps our image and our potential for the recruitment of future Roadrunners.
Our program offers in-state tuition waivers that provide out of state students the option to attend UTSA. Being the Premier University in San Antonio, UTSA is a great option for recruiting cheerleaders and mascots. We offer a strong game day atmosphere playing football in the Alamo dome with travel opportunities. We cover our program with Adidas gear, strength and conditioning coaches, athletic training, academic support, locker room access, summer camp attendance, tumbling instruction, in-state tuition waivers, scholarship and national competition. UTSA is one of the only NCA competitive Division 1A Schools in our region.
