UTSA is a place where students come together to create cherished friendships. The relationships made at UTSA oftentimes become life-long. Each day, students are strengthened through community at UTSA—through studying, mentorship, or by simply joining forces to cheer on the Roadrunners at the Saturday game. UTSA relationships are instrumental in many Roadrunners’ success and personal growth.
That is why Roadrunners come together to support each other in times of need. Now, students are seeking a way to memorialize Roadrunners on campus by creating a sacred place. This key location on the Main Campus will allow students, alumni, faculty and staff to come together during difficult times of loss, and to provide strength in our community. For the first time, we will be able to gather together at home to remember, at the heart of Roadrunner Nation. The Roadrunner Memorial Garden is our place to remember. You can help create this sacred tradition.
"I have personally experienced losing a classmate, and because I wasn't able to leave campus, I wasn't able to attend the memorial service. This showed me and others that there isn't a place on campus where we, as students, can come together and remember those we have lost. This particular classmate was such a positive person who made everyone he knew feel special. For him and so many others we've lost, this space will make a monumental difference for our grieving process. I picture this beautiful garden for reflection and community. So many students have spoken out about doing this and now is the time to make it a reality," said Andrew Hubbard, student body president.
When you donate to the Roadrunner Memorial Garden, you become a part of history. You are helping a generation of Roadrunners to establish a sacred tradition that will continue for years to come. The garden will be placed near the entrance of campus, tucked away in the trees, complete with park benches, three flags and shade. A memorial message will be engraved on site, and students will be able to bring engraved pebbles or flowers to the site in times of need.
