ASCE National Steel Bridge Competition

Our Project

The UTSA chapter of ASCE secured the honor of overall first place team at the ASCE Texas-Mexico Regional Steel Bride Competition this past January, besting top schools such as Texas A&M, UTEP and UT.  This is the second year in the row that the UTSA team has placed first in regional competitions and has the opportunity to represent the university at a national level!

We are on our way to a record-breaking year and need help getting the team to the National Steel Bridge Competition in Akron, Ohio, this May. We will compete against the top engineering schools in the United States and explore a variety of design issues related to the use of steel in design and construction.

Who We Are

The UTSA American Society of Civil Engineering (ASCE) received its student chapter charter in 1989 and since then has been one of the most active organizations in the College of Engineering. We currently have approximately 80 active student members. We promote interest and participation in civil and environmental engineering through interaction with professionals and faculty as well as involvement in student team competitions.

ASCE actively participates in hands-on projects, such as steel bridge and concrete canoe competitions, which encourage student members to work as a team to design and construct a finished product to compete against other university chapters. This first-hand experience with project based organization provides an opportunity to develop important skills before entering the professional world.

What Your Gifts Will Do

Our team has been actively raising money for supplies and registration fees. Your gifts will further supplement our efforts and will be used to send our Steel Bridge Team to Akron, Ohio, to compete at the national level. Travel needs include our airfare, hotel and meals.

THANK YOU

Your partnership means so much to us and is critical to our team’s success. Gifts at all levels directly increase our programs visibility and will provide experiences that build a foundation of success for us as future engineers.

If you could please donate and spread the word to family and friends through email, Facebook or Twitter we would greatly appreciate your help!
