Who We Are
We are a group of students currently enrolled in the Advanced Social Work Community Practice course at The University of Texas at San Antonio; each of us is pursing a Master’s of Social Work. This semester we are using our skills and knowledge to work together with the community to create change. As Social Work students, it is important for each of us to take part in our community, and continue to improve upon its current state. This project allows for us to reach attainable goals, and to make a difference for others.
Our Project
We are raising money for a local community center to bring attention to childhood obesity. Our class has chosen to support the Madonna Center in the heart of the Edgewood area of San Antonio. Our goal is to help them meet children’s needs, specifically providing them with ways to be active by purchasing and installing playground equipment that will inspire movement and activity. This equipment includes, but is not limited to: basketballs, soccer balls, jump ropes, hula hoops, frisbees, and any other toys we can purchase to promote physical activity.
The Impact
All donations to this project will help children in the community be able to live a healthier, more active lifestyle. The project will directly affect those who will utilize the equipment and services provided by the Madonna Center, but it will also affect the community and each of us. As graduate students, this opportunity is enabling us to provide important services to a community in need. We hope that in doing this we will also bring awareness to the community and other UTSA organizations about the importance of childhood health and wellness.
What Your Gifts Will Do
Your donations will help our class to purchase the above mentioned items the center is in need of. Your money will go entirely to purchasing these items for the Madonna Community Center. Your gift will make a direct impact on the children in San Antonio and the Edgewood area. Together, we can help a local community center with more improved equipment to give children a way to be active and healthy.

A gift of $25 covers the cost of two tennis racquets and a can of tennis balls
A gift of $100 covers the cost of ten jump ropes. Donors at this level will receive a shout out on social media (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram)
A gift of $250 covers the cost of two soccer goals, a soccer ball, shin guards, and field cones! Donors at this level will receive a shout out on social media (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram)
A gift of $500 covers the cost of twenty footballs, twenty-four flag football belts, twenty-four scrimmage vests. Donors at this level will recieve a Community Center photo and thank you note
a gift of $1000 will provide the Madonna Center with an increased budget to provide children healthier food options. Donors at this level will receive a Community Center photo, handwritten thank you note, and shout out on social media (Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram)
