The Challenge
The University of San Antonio Texas Computer Security Associate (CSA) needs your help to compete and win at national cybersecurity competitions! Through practicing and competing at various cybersecurity competitions, we can complement and expand our knowledge that we learn through our coursework while evaluating our progress as cybersecurity experts. These competitions allow us to practice on various devices, equipment, and software and obtain experiences that would otherwise be impossible. However, we are unable to do this alone! We need your help to maintain our current path to becoming UTSA Cybersecurity experts.
Who We Are
The CSA is a student-led organization at The University of Texas at San Antonio whose main objective is to improve the knowledge and skills of the next generation of cybersecurity specialists. UTSA CSA students participate in more than a dozen cybersecurity competitions every year that hone our defensive, vulnerability assessment, penetration testing, threat analysis and digital forensics skills. To prepare, students train 8 – 15 hours a week through structured practices and mock competitions.
What Your Gifts Will Do
Your support allows CSA students to train for and participate in cyber competitions such as the Collegiate Cyber Defense Competition, Panopoly, the Collegiate Penetration Testing Competition, CSAW, UTD TexSAW, MITRE, PICO, Matsano, and others. We currently self-fund our participation at these events; your generous donation will allow us to purchase supplies and educational materials to help us prepare and fund travel and lodging for us during competitions.
The Impact
The CSA understands that employers and government agencies are looking for candidates with expertise in cybersecurity that is earned through real-life experiences in addition to education. This well-rounded education has allowed former CSA members, now UTSA alumni, to find employment with the U.S. Army, U.S. Air Force, NSA, FireEye, Chevron, Raytheon, Booz Allen Hamilton, Rackspace and many more. Many of our students have said without these competition experiences, that they would have not placed these jobs or have been nearly as prepared as they were.
