Who We Are

Nexus Lab is a group of architecture students whose goal is to create an art piece/wall installation. The design focus is based on digital design and fabrication through 3D digital software.

Our Project

During this spring semester, Nexus Lab will be contributing to being part of San Antonio’s art and culture by designing a wall installation for the city and its inhabitants. We will design and fabricate a project that will be mounted on a limestone and brick wall between the Majestic Theater and the parking garage, facing towards Houston Street. Due to its location and the impact that the Majestic Theater has over Houston St, the installation will react to Mexican cultural representation to promote interaction between the people and the art piece.

For the installation proposal, Nexus Lab has come up with a beautiful idea: a piece that reacts with the structure in order to bring an experience of a moving installation on top of the wall without interfering with the people circulation over the sidewalk. Several materials will be needed, for the structure and the body of the piece, such as metal for joinery and structure, thread or rope for the creation of patterns between structures, and lighting fixtures for the interaction of the people and the wall at night in response to the Majestic Theater. The art installation will enhance the eye of the viewer in terms of aesthetics and colors, but also will create a sense of wonder when they see the string patterns between the structure and the different overlays of colors. The design will create a natural, physical connection between the wall and the piece, and the installation will generate a visual connection with the people of San Antonio.

Nexus Lab is asking for your help to provide funding for the materials, and assemblies that will be needed for the construction of the installation.

Quienes Somos

Nexus Lab es un grupo de estudiantes de Arquitectura cuya meta es diseñar y crear una instalación de arte sobre un muro, el enfoque del diseño es meramente digital, creado y fabricado mediante el uso de software 3D.

Nuestro Proyecto

Durante este semestre, Nexus Lab estará contribuyendo con esta obra para formar parte de San Antonio, principalmente para representar la rica y vasta cultura de la ciudad y sus habitantes. Debido a su ubicación y el impacto que el Majestic Theater tiene sobre Houston Street, la instalación representará el impacto de la cultura mexicana y promoverá la interacción entre las personas y la obra misma.

Para este proyecto, Nexus Lab ha creado una idea maravillosa que reaccionará mediante su misma estructura para crear una experiencia de movimiento en la misma instalación de arte sin obstruir con la circulación peatonal sobre la acera. Varios materiales serán necesitados durante el transcurso del proyecto, como metales para las conexiones estructurales y el esqueleto mismo de la instalación, cuerda/hilo para la creación de los patrones de estos que actuarán sobre la estructura de metal, y luces para la interacción entre la vida nocturna de las personas y el Majestic Theater durante la noche. La instalación de esta pieza de arte no solo interactuara con el ojo de la persona en términos de estética y colores, pero también creara una experiencia de imaginación generada por la complejidad de los patrones que los hilos/cuerdas crearan. El diseño tendrá una conexión física natural con la pared, cuya intención será generar una interacción visual directa con la ciudad de San Antonio. Nexus Lab amablemente solicita donaciones para materiales, y herramientas necesarias para la construcción e instalación de la pieza de arte.
